George W. Asbury, son of David and Isobel Houghland Asbury, was born Feb 27, 1873 near Veedersburg and spent his entire life in this vicinity with the exception of 3 years in Dakota.  On Sept 15, 1894 he was united in marriage to Harriet DIce Glascock and to this union two children were born: Mrs. Beulah Nicklas who passed away July 25, 1938 and son, Carrel, who resides on a farm nearby. He joined the United Brethren Church at an early age and took an active part until ill health left him almost helpless.  Mr. Asbury spent his entire life farming and earned the respect of everyone by his neighborliness and unselfishness.  He was willing to lend a helping hand when needed and was active in the forward affairs of his community, church and Knights of Pythias Lodge of which he was a 50 year member. He departed this life Oct 6, 1949 at the age of 76 years 7 months 9 days and leaves to ourn his loss the wife, Harriet, son Carrel, 5 grandchildren, Wayne, Vern and Marvellen Nicklas and Mrs Marjorie Nickolson and Dean Asbury and two great grandchildren.  Also a foster brother, Albert Porter, who resides at Hillsboro and host of other relatives and friends.   --- transcribed by kbz

George Asbury, highly regarded and prosperous farmer of the Veedersburg community, died last Thursday night (6 Oct 1949 born 27 Feb 1973) at his home after being ill for several months following a stroke.  Mr. Asbury, 76, spent his entire life at the farm home where he died. He was the son of David and Margaret Hoagland Asbury. He was married to Hattie Glascock, who survives. Also surviving is a son, Carol and five
grandchildren. Funeral services were held on Sunday at Stone Bluff EUB Church with burial in Osborn Prairie cemetery with Parham Funeral Home in charge.   --- transcribed by kbz
